I was pretty excited to read this based on the prologue alone--the writing was enough to suck me right in, and the creepy horror factor mixed in with the science fiction completely sold me on this. If I'd known there was some good, oldfashioned noir detective grittiness in the mix, as well, I would have picked this up even sooner.

All-in-all, a very solid read with some interesting characters. Miller was definitely my favorite, although I wouldn't be surprised if most readers identify better with the more righteous Holden better. They're both very different characters, and getting this story from both perspectives really added some layers.

However, it did take a while for things to really heat up. The end of the prologue promised some creepy alien-type invasion, but it's not until halfway through the book that everything really comes together. Before that, things are definitely not dull, but there was some weird pacing issues where things were either moving super fast or super slow. This could very well be from this being a two-author endeavor, and also I didn't have nearly as much time to read as I would have liked.

Definitely will be looking forward to the next, and I certainly hope it'll cover more of what happens after the finale in here. Either way, fantastic, gritty space adventure!
