I had been wanting to read this even before the controversy surrounding the film. I really fell in love with this story. It reminded me of Harry Potter, but it was more epic than the Potter stories. There were certain elements that made it feel like Narnia or Middle Earth, but it was the overall idea fleshed out near the end of the book that made me really love it. Pullman's imagination is so unique, especially with the idea of the daemon attached to the humans. And that's why I enjoyed this book so much: it's not just about Pullman's imagination. It's about our imaginations and our passions too. I'd write more, but I don't want to ruin it for anybody. I'm really excited to read the next one.
