You know that feeling when you’re floating on water? All your senses are dampened, you are weightless, careless and completely relaxed. There aren’t any loud sounds, you are safe, perfectly happy and everything else seems a mile away... That’s EXACTLY how Maggie Stiefvater’s writing makes me feel. I want to hug this book and never ever let it out of my sight.
Grace and Sam are finally together, but they live in fear. They are constantly afraid that things will go back to the way they were before, and unfortunately, it’s not something either of them can control. There are several new wolves in the woods and it’s up to Sam to take care of them all now – the old and the new. In addition, Grace’s parents finally started noticing things and decided to start honing their parenting skills.
Linger brings us two additional POVs. We get to see some of the events through the eyes of Isabel, to whom we were introduced in Shiver, and Cole, one of the new wolves. The two of them are so very different from Sam and Grace and having four POVs instead of two brought amazing balance to the story. While this would certainly bother me in Shiver, I was thrilled by it now.
That doesn’t mean that I like Grace and Sam any less. In fact, if I had feelings for those characters before, it was nothing compared to how I feel about them now. They are both beautiful and strong in their own way. I’ve noticed that my favorite quotes usually come from Sam’s chapters, although Grace has her moments, too. There’s a reason for that, of course. Sam is just the type of gentle soul I can start loving in a heartbeat, and after all, he’s supposed to be good with words. There isn’t a character in YA literature I could ever love more than I love Sam. A look in his eyes is all it takes to make me cry!
I did my best to find a flaw in Linger – this may sound odd, but I wanted to have at least one small thing to complain about because I thought it would add credibility to the rest of my review. I tried my best and failed miserably. Oh, I’ve read my friends’ reviews but I simply don’t agree with any of them. The first half was not slow for me, it was soft and beautiful. Isabel and Cole weren’t irritating, they were troubled and interesting. The prose wasn’t purple, it was… I already said that, didn’t I? I could go on and on for days, but it wouldn’t do much good. This is the second book in a series that needs to be read in order. If you liked Shiver, you are going to like Linger too, I have no doubt about it.

I'm just starting this one now. There are three narrators for the audio book. I have the paper book coming, but I might not switch formats.

3 narrators?!? I'm curious to hear about that! You just set the pace, no problem. I'm sure we'll love this one.
Yes and each blend well together. I'm on chapter five. No idea of the pages. You know how that goes.
Anyway, I read book one so long ago that I've forgotten much of what happened. I am loving how the author sprinkles in the previous events verses the massive background information dump some do.

So true. None of it felt like she's repeating things unnecessarily, but she still does it. I've read it only recently so I remember every detail, but you're right about it being extremely well done. The page doesn't really matter, I think we're more or less at the same place. Grace and Isabel are in the woods.
Just let me know where you stop. :)
Will do. I don't get why Grace's parents no longer like Sam and was Isabel always such a nasty character? Or has she become worse?
Lol, she wasn't exactly warm, no. I think she just needs some getting used to. Grace's parents are mostly absent and even when they're present, they're not, you know?! So I don't know why they suddenly care, but it can't be too much since he's sleeping in her room all the time.
This woman's writing is making me melt! I should really be sleeping, but I just don't want to!
I so agree about the writing. I'm at chapter 12 and will be calling it a night soon. I've got a devil of a sinus headache. Thankfully, this book is audio, so I can kick back and chill, but I want to go to sleep soon.
Okay, okay, I'm liking Cole and Isabel. (lol) Anyway, I'm stopping at where he shows up at her house naked. My guess is the dead wolf and the early changes relate, but I also think I know what's happening to Grace. Wouldn't that be so sad! I hope I'm wrong.
You're probably right about Grace and yes, it would be heartbreaking. It already is, in fact. :) I know Isabel's and Cole's POVs bothered some people but to me they just added more things to love.
Oh, I just saw your e-mail. I was kinda already sleeping when I wrote these comments last night. Hah! I should have added a special warning or something. :DI really hope you'll feel better soon. Those sinuses trouble you often.
Anyway, I have all these annoying people around me. I wish they would all go away so I can read in peace. :)
LOL - I love my family, but feel that way about them sometimes. Of course, they turn the tables with "All you want to do is read." Some days, that's very true.
Thank you and I do feel better. It's weather-related or it has been this summer. I slept with a heating pad on my face and that helps so much.
I won't get to reading until later on this evening which will be late night for you. If I can start earlier, I'll give you the heads-up.

Excellent. I'll just read some more, and then I'll stop at about a half and wait for you to catch up. I'm leaving the day after tomorrow for vacation and I'm afraid I won't have as much access to internet. But we'll probably be done by then.(view spoiler)
You're leaving Thursday? Hope you have a blast!
I should be finished tomorrow night. And yes, I loved that scene. There's been so much time since I'd read book one that I am no longer attached to Grace and Sam like I was before. Cole is slowly becoming my favorite. :)

Oh, Sam is always my favorite. Plus, (view spoiler)I couldn't sleep at all last night (I get like that when I have to leave the house for a longer period) so I kind of finished. I just couldn't stop reading.
I absolutely loved every word. :)
Have a nice vacation, you hopeless romantic! I bet you're not going to the beach. :D Well have lots and lots of fun anyway!
Thank you! And nope, I have the beach right here and I'm running as far away from it as possible. Hopeless romantic? Hah, hardly. Only when it comes to books. :)
Thank you! I've been meaning to ask you, are there three or four narrators? I might get Forever on audio to listen to while I'm driving tomorrow, but only if it's really good. How much do you have left?
"There isn’t a character in YA literature I could ever love more than I love Sam."Ne bih ni sama bolje rekla...:)
Maja, you have no idea how happy it makes me to wake up (it is 7:00 a.m. where I live) and see this review! I'm tearing up, which is bad because I already have sleepy eyes. I can barely see what I'm typing! I'm really glad you liked this so much. You've inspired me to continue reading this as soon as I finish what I'm reading now (which won't take very long).
So . . . I'm going to stop babbling now and just say that I LOVE this review. :)
Glass, znala sam da ćeš ti razumjeti.OMG, Lora, thank you so much! That means a lot coming from you! I'm a little scared to read Forever, but on the other hand, nothing can ruin Shiver OR Linger for me. I hope you go back to it soon. :)
Great review Maja! I was sort of....in a way scared to read the second book. I just wanted to shiver a bit longer! I don't want to see Sam or Grace in any more pain. Still scared but looking forward to Linger now. Thank you!
Maja, I just finished Linger! I am in love! Sam just stole my heart! I do miss Beck though. ;) He is still such a big part of the story, but we don't get to hear from him.
I hope you'll write a review! Forever is next on my list, I hope to read it by Monday. We'll see. :)I'm so happy you liked it, too.
Good trilogy! Forever is just as good, except I didn't like the end (if I dare even call it an ending).
I LOVE how you describe the way Stiefvater's writing makes you feel. You captured that unique feeling I got reading Linger really really well! Your review actuallly made me like the book better.
Thanks so much, Choco. I still haven't found another author who can manipulate my emotions as easily as Stiefvater does.
Is it really cool??? Cause my friend said theres otheres tht said tht Linger was only made bc the author needed money, u know i was kind of hesitating. Tnx for the good review! XD
