recommended for: Brit lit lovers
I know the man's a legend, and I WANTED to like this book--believe me. But I just wasn't that into it. It was very mannered and artful, and I could appreciate it as fine literature as one would look at a Baroque painting from afar in an art gallery and say, "Very nice, but unaffecting." I'm not sorry I read it, but I never became engaged with the characters or what they were doing. I usually don't mind novels without much plot movement, but this one just never seized me.
