Read in July, 2011 — I own a copy

This was my 2nd Ted Dekker book and I didn't like it nearly as much as I liked The Bride Collector.
I felt like the story really dragged toward the middle and I also felt like it was a little too predictable. And then when what I predicted happened, it wasn't even really believable to me.

Ryan Evans is a Naval Intelligence officer who has chosen duty over his family. He's been away from them for two years and his wife has basically moved on and his daughter Bethany, 16, doesn't even view him as a father-figure anymore. He has a harrowing experience in the desert and takes a leave of absence from the Navy with a renewed desire to make things right with his family. Upon arriving in San Antonio, TX they make it clear to Ryan that they want nothing to do with him which devastates him further. But then when his daughter is kidnapped by a serial killer known at the Boneman, Ryan's devastation turns into a desperate desire to save his daughter no matter what. In the course of the investigation, the police believe that Ryan could actually be the Boneman so not only is Ryan trying to save his daughter but he's also trying to elude capture himself.

It's a classic good vs. evil scenario that Dekker is known for but it just all fell a little short for me.

I'll definitely still check out some of his other books, this just wasn't a favorite for me.
