Although the book is well written it is extremely depressing. The author describes the loving home and happy parents of Anne who both die! So sad! Then she is taken in by a woman who treats her bad and ends up having 4 or 5 little boys after she takes Anne in. Anne helps her take care of all the boys. The one person, an older daugher Eliza, treats her like a daughter but moves out of the house to get married. Anne is heartbroken! Then you think maybe Anne will be well cared for by another woman who was Anne's mothers best friend but the first woman is too tired and relies too much on Anne to give her up. This is when I stopped reading it. I think I'll just reread Anne of Green Gables instead. I kept having to remind myself that she does have a happy life with Matthew and Marilla and Gilbert but just had a rough beginning. But that didn't get me through it. The author does capture the spirit of Anne with her love of books, incessant talking and imagining herself a best friend in a china cupboard but it was just too depressing to finish. <br/><br/><a href="http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/881910?utm_medium=api&utm_source=blog_review">View all my reviews.</a>
