“Witch Lady” is a children’s book by Nancy Carlson and it stars Louanne Pig and her encounter with a scary witch lady that lives in her neighborhood! “Witch Lady” is a truly fantastic book about facing your fears and not judging anyone by their appearance that children will enjoy!

There lived an old lady who everyone in the neighborhood believed to be a witch lady since she has a black cat and everyone in the neighborhood always hear screeching coming from her house. One day, Louanne, George, Ralph and Harriet all ran through the witch lady’s yard and when they tried to get back over the fence, Louanne tripped and twisted her ankle and her friends were about to help her up when the witch lady came by and…

Nancy Carlson has done an excellent job at both illustrating and writing this book about not judging anyone by their appearances. Nancy Carlson’s writing is truly cute and inspiring as she clearly showcases that sometimes a person might look scary on the outside, but have a heart of gold on the inside. I loved the way that Nancy Carlson has made Louanne conquer her fears in a mature way and it greatly added to the moral of this story about not judging other people by their looks. Nancy Carlson’s illustrations are extremely cute and I loved the somewhat creepy atmosphere of this book as the sky is dark and there seems to be a storm coming as the wind continues to blow throughout the sky. I also loved seeing the frightened expressions on Louanne and her friends as their eyese are wide open and their mouths are also wide open and twisted.

Overall, “Witch Lady” is a truly inspirational story about the importance of accepting everyone on the inside that many children would be able to enjoy! I would recommend this book to children ages three and up since this book is appropriate to younger children.
