The Rest Falls Away (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1)
by Colleen Gleason (Goodreads Author)

This book has been labeled romance. Don't even try and find it anywhere else in your bookstore/library. It's really too bad though, because true believers in romance novels will be disappointed and those who like a good romp will forever miss out!
This first book in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles lays out the ground work for what I think is a very promising series. We meet Victoria Gardella who has been born into a legacy of slayers that precedes her by hundreds of years. She trains by day and is a member of the ton by night. She is likable, but flawed. Just when you start to get annoyed with her, you put yourself in her shoes and realize you might do the same in her circumstances. She is trying to juggle her life as a proper, young, husband-hunting miss with her involvement in London's dangerous vampire underworld.
Yes, there's romance. But there is also secrecy, deceit, and wicked temptation. The more I read, the more she grew on me, and when I got to the last page, I found myself rubbing my hands together and saying, "And so it begins..."
The author describes her books as Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets Pride and Prejudice. I myself would have to say it's more like Buffy meets The Bridgertons. Read it because you are looking for something new and surprising, not because you are looking for happily ever after. Enjoy!
