Ben is such an independent (though sometimes selfish) princess ... definitely not your "damsel-in-distress". It was a bit annoying how bratty Ben was at the beginning, but in a way it was very understandable. I loved the references to other fairy tales and how the book was set in our world (though in a fictional European country). Everything was neatly wrapped up in the end (which is how a fairy tale should be).

One I found interesting was the fat "issue": (view spoiler) but because of this she saw how superficial it was and used her status to try and change how people viewed one another. Another interesting (atypical fairy tale) item was Ben's discussion of "happily ever after" telling readers that marriage and life doesn't work that way. It felt a miniscule about of preachy, but it was appreciated that Murdock would draw attention to both of these issues.
