OK, if you are currently pregnant, I wouldn't really recommend reading this book right now. You will probably freak out. If you are trying to get pregnant, read it if you don't tend to overreact - you'll be exposed to some good things to think about, but you might freak out. If you've already had children, you might just see bits of yourself in this book.
I find Ms Wolfe a little extreme in her interpretation of how much the medical establishment influences birth experiences poorly. However, I do think she makes some good points that need to be addressed. Like her, I'm not sure I'm ready for the cabin in the woods, but she has made me think more seriously about the midwife option for the next time than I did with my first pregnancy.
I thought her commentary on how my "post-feminist" generation of mothers is treated inside and outside the home is pretty spot on. I'm not as frustrated with my own situation personally as she predominately describes, but I certainly ...more
