I read this while travelling through several of the countries that form the backdrop of this epic story, including Germany and Russia. :) It's an enjoyable page turner, especially if you enjoy the likes of Downton Abbey. I finally feel like I have a much better understanding of how the first World War started now. I can't say it blew me away as much as the two Pillars of the Earth books did but I would recommend it to anyone vaguely interested in European history, and I'll definitely be reading the next two instalments.
