Wow! This one is hard to put down. Eve finds herself investigating the grisly and inexplicable murder of an old man living on the streets who wouldn't have lived many months more anyway. As she piles up like murders in New York and elsewhere, she trods on the toes of the medical profession, historically a very tight group who protect their own and supposedly police their own, but we all know how that works out much of the time. Eve doesn't back down, of course, and we get to watch her be dragged down just about as far as she can go as she fights the political and arrogant manipulators of power she comes up against. Even the economic power of Roarke can't protect her this time as we find out what Eve is really made of. The premise of the book makes you shiver ... and wonder.
