A strong first few pages that had me hoping for more. The beginning of the book will appeal to students who like Savvy, or a lighter fantasy. The problem is that the book turns into a darker and somewhat violent thriller. This is only a problem because I don't know if I can get thriller fans to start the book (the cover would put some boys off) or be patient to get to the truly creepy villain part. It may work for a book club that needs to appeal to boys and girls, but be careful of the torture scene. Sensitive readers may feel tricked by the author just like Piper is tricked by Dr. Hellion!

As an adult, I liked the book and the surprises along the way.
