What an excellent book, from a truly gifted writer. This story was very different from The PoisonWood Bible, but equally beautiful. The author's gift for wordplay and beautiful prose really moved me in this book. I felt at times like a music lover enjoying the playing of a jazz great. The lines and arcs to her narrative were stunning. I found myself underlining sentences and pointing out great passages to my wife. That is unusual for me.

I really enjoyed the voice of the main character and the interaction with Frida Kahlo. She was portrayed beautifully. The main character was complex and beautifully rendered. It was a pleasure following him through this epic story.

I am a big fan of barbara Kingsolver's. This is two books that I have read by her now, and I really loved both of them. I highly recommend The Lacuna and The Poisonwood Bible.
