** spoiler alert ** Wow, this children's novel really packs a punch. Ostensibly just a collection of anecdotes about a big, goofy dog called Mr Mosely but the author has used these stories as a vehicle for a more powerful story about a deeply stressed family. Mum and Dad don't have a great relationship anyway and when the recession strikes things go wrong. Dad loses his job, a baby comes along when they can't afford it, and a well-meaning brother-in-law arouses suspicions of infidelity. On top of all that, Mr Mosely gets sick, very sick, and Corey has hard lessons to learn about loss, acceptance and hope.
Highly recommended for 10+
