I love the "Beauty and the Beast" tale. It was the first movie I truly loved, and that stuck with me my whole life (I was six when it came out). So when "Beastly" was released to theatres, I was stocked. I enjoyed the modern retelling, and in truth, I loved the movie. However, I felt that there were pieces missing. It happens sometimes, when you watch a movie that you know is based off of a book. You know that they cut something that might have been a jumping board for the scene you're watching, but wasn't important to the story.
Naturally, this made me want to read the novel.
I regret I did.
It was TOO much like the Disney movie I'd known and loved. It honestly felt like I was re-reading that tale with a few minor exceptions, and there were some scenes that felt stolen from the inspiration.
I will say it was well written, and the story, of course, had an excellent flow and solid characters. However, I prefer the theatrical take.
