This was an amazing love story that take place in Russia during WWII. It is heart wrenching and almost painful to read at times, yet I felt I developed such a personal connection to the two main characters that I wouldn't have dared to put it down until I knew that everything turned out happily ever after. I then found out this was a series of three books so the perfect ending I was hoping for wasn't quite as I pictured. That being said, as soon as the book ended I felt rather lost and immediately started to re-read it until I was able to receive the second in the series, Tatiana & Alexander.
The author's style of writing appealed to me and pulled me in within the first few pages. This is THE absolute, all-time favorite love story on my list now and one I am sure I will read over and over.
As a note of caution, the book has a lot of sexual content- especially during the 70 page honeymoon. There is also a lot of bad language but that is mostly used by the soldiers which seemed true to character. I found it fit with the story considering the gritty time period but I know it would definitely be offensive to some.

Absolutely loved the first one as much as most of the reviews describe it here. I was a little disappointed with the second book. Although a good story, I think it wasn't edited at all. They should had cut about 200 pages from it. I didn't want to read the third, because I felt she changed the personalities of the two characters and made them do things they would never, specially Alexander. By the second book we know them so well, that we know what would be out of character completely.
