I liked this book even more than the first book of his, Monster Hunter International. Magic started occurring in people around the time of the American Civil War. Nobody knew why this was so. The time of the novel is around 1930, the start of the USA's Great Depression.

The start of each chapter usually had some famous person (from real history), making comments almost always pertaining to magic, and the effect it's has on historic events. The main characters I found pretty fun and enjoyable. The female lead is a bit too much Mary Sue, but it didn't really bother me.

I don't know what to say, I found both the worldbuilding and the characters very awesome. The plot wasn't quite as up to snuff, but I didn't think it was BAD or anything.
