really liked it
bookshelves: 2011-reads, australian

My husband and I both read this book and enjoyed it immensely. It was beautifully written. The start reminded us of our childhood - eg the visit to the show, showbags etc. It is lovely to read a book that is "Australian" in voice, to read of things of our "culture". You know the book is going to be heartbreaking and it is. Soo sad but still written so beautifully. A story simply told. I compared to Tim
Wintons' Breath but it is different - I think more poignant. I could picture each scene and each character so vividly. Wonderful debut.
