I picked it up because it was a Newberry Winner that I had never read. This book chronicles the life of a 11 year old minstrel's son in the late 1200s. It gives an interesting view of life in the medieval ages (probably a little rosier than real life), and I thought it a good introduction for children to the middle ages without being as blunt as Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
