Read from July 11 to 16, 2011

Having read Joey Kramer's book, Stephen Davis' oral history of Aerosmith, Rebel Heart by Bebe Buell (mother of Liv Tyler), and Mia Tyler's memoir, I was not sure how much I could learn from this book. I think the author sums it up best when he states "rock and roll stars never grow up," and that seems to be the point of being a star. As expected, his version of events is different from drummer Kramer's or Buell's, and his disdain for much of the addiction recovery industry is apparent. There is plenty of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, ex-wives, groupies, managers, and Joe Perry, even for non-Aerosmith fans. Fans will be thrilled, and Tyler reviews many of his song lyrics, of which he is justifiably proud. One underlying theme is that passion for rock and roll (or anything else) keeps one physically younger than those just waiting to die. Sorry, American Idol acolytes, this was published too soon to include much on his new gig.
