This Jack Reacher tale is the prequel to all the other books which have come before! It's brilliant...as gripping as the rest, with all the high voltage action we have come to expect!

Jack Reacher is still a major in the military police in March 1997, and when a woman is murdered in Carter Crossing, Mississippi, just down the road from the big army base, the powers that be at the Pentagon are worried! Is the murderer a local, or is the murderer a soldier?

Reacher is sent in undercover to investigate. He meets up with the county sheriff, a beautiful woman by the name of Elizabeth Deveraux, a former US Marine, who figures he's undercover in a matter of minutes! She decides she doesn't want him on her turf, and tells him to leave...which of course he won't do! On a tentative footing, as her investigation is going nowhere, they agree to disagree and work together on the case.

When Reacher discovers two more women have been murdered in the previous months, things start to accelerate. All three have been stunningly beautiful women. He finds clues which point toward Deveraux. Then there was the car which was left on the railway tracks, which the midnight express demolished. Was it to hide evidence?

This fast paced, action packed thriller kept me enthralled to the very last page, and the twists in the plot just kept getting bigger and better all the way to the end!
