We just had an Every Child Ready to Read workshop at my library not long ago, and it really is true---a little reading aloud goes a long way. I wish I could remember the statistic now, but the difference in recognized words between a child who is frequently read to and one who isn't is aboslutely staggering.

Even though I am reading this book for my Materials for Children class in my GSLIS class, it is a great book for all parents, teachers and caregivers about the rewards and benefits to reading aloud to children. The simple act of a twenty minute story empowers that child with life long skills that can be taken from birth to adulthood. A great book for new parents.
