Godless won the 2004 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.

Jason Bock and his friends decide to create their own religion, which worships a Ten-Legged God, best known as the town water tower. The book is an interesting reflection on founding a relgion, creating rituals, and attracting followers. While I found the book interesting and even a bit amusing, I would hesitate to recommend it as a book to read for pleasure. It feels much more like an assigned novel; I could see it being used as part of a unit exploring religion or one's identity.
