This was sort of the Indian version of "The Help" (which I'm currently listening to and marveling at the story). But "The Space Between Us" seemed mostly to reinforce the knowledge of the caste system and the unbelievable disparity between privileged and non-privileged in Indian society. Though interesting - I wasn't really able to connect with the characters. There seemed to be an express desire by the author to show one good person-one bad person on each side of the gap between these two families. It was easy to see that both sides had difficulties and both sides tried to bridge that connection but as much history and back story was presented, I never really connected with any one character. The closest was Bhimi and I am glad her story had some optimism to it at the end - but that wasn't enough to really "make" the book for me.
