Age: 4-8

Genre: Non fiction/Informational

Diversity: location, names

Illustrations: Detailed and accurate depictions of the Sonoran desert and the flora and fauna that reside in it.

Personal Response: I enjoyed this story and the detailed information it offered about javelinas and the Sonoran desert environment. I also like the repetition of the request to call the javelina by its appropriate name rather than calling it a pig (which it isn't).

Curriculum: This book could be used in conjunction with a lesson about the Sonoran Desert as well as with a lesson about why we don't call people names they don't like. It would aid in expressing the idea that there are appropriate and inappropriate names for different people and things.
