This was really short, but hard to get through for two reasons. First, it was a little hard to follow with the dialect and stream of consciousness. Secondly, the harrowing subject matter made it difficult to *want* to read. However, the author has written a stunning story of horrible things that actually happen, and has shown that is is possible to overcome these things. As a teacher, I especially enjoyed the idea that education is what saved Precious. And moreover, that even with all the shit that had happened to her, she sincerely wanted to learn. I did not really like the "class book" idea at the end, though. I thought it was Precious' story the whole way through, and should have remained so.
