Let's be honest- this was more of a therapeutic assignment rather than anything else.

Initially I was interested in reading this because I wanted to know the 'complete' story. Unfortunately I felt that what I read I had read before in magazine articles. There was little new information. I felt like to go along with her recovery the author was given free range and told to most likely just 'writer her story'. While I can understand that it must have been quite hard for her I do feel that someone could have gone through and made it more 'user-friendly'.

I can understand that the author did not want her children's names revealed but at the same time they already were to the public via court documents and other media outlets. Towards the end of the book I did feel like I was just reading notes from her therapist's notebook on what exercises they practiced, how well she did and how she made the connections.

The story in itself is a sad one and we get that, we expect that. Therefore I feel there should probably have been a little more healing time before this book was published. Because as of now it simply comes off as rushed.

I'm not sure if the book was published before the author was awarded the 20 million dollars, but perhaps this was a way of trying to secure financial safety for her daughters' futures.

Bree Mclaren Although I agree she may have felt pressured to write the book since its what everyone expected, she ultimately did have the choice. As for it being a therapeutic assignment who gives a fuck if it was, she got to tell her story from her own mouth rather than magazines splattering the vague facts over a two page spread. Maybe she just wanted to make sure everyone had a real idea of what happened to her, because lets be honest could the same publication that brings you the hottest guys of the year and which celebrities are getting divorced really be trusted to print the entire story of her abduction over 18 years.

As for leaving her children's names out of the picture a lot of people respect her want for her daughters to be safe from the public. It was just one more way she could be in control for once when it came to the safety of her daughters, because again, be honest, had she had a lot of control in her life so far.

And again who gives a fuck if the book was written for some form of reward money, do you think she has a lot of job options to support her girls.

But what mostly infuriates me about your review is the user-friendly comment, how dare you suggest that she seek out help to over inflate and dramatize her story just to entertain you more. The truth of the story and the truth of her uneducated writing skills should be enough to show you exactly how much was taken away from her. She doesn't owe you any flashy dramatic even more detailed horrific story for your own entertainment. So get off your high horse, get the ability to look past technicalities and actually listen to what Jaycee Dugard has to say.

I may be a bitch, but at least I'm not a cold hearted one.

Marjorie Ashle you are an ass

Satin ^^what a mean thing to say :/
this is one person's opinion of this book as she does NOT speak for everyone else this review came from HER NOT YOU...i'm just saying not everyone likes the same darn books as you Let It Go People!!

Laura Lockhart Wow, I think if your going to insult someone you should at least know how to spell her name. When did Goodreads become a forum for personal attack? Everyone has their right to an opinion of what they read. At least her review was articulate and informed. Who stoops to name calling over a book review? Someone who reads the 50 Shades Trilogy and a teen saga. Really it tells me the author of the, "you are an ass," comment is still stuck in high school.
