Well it's no Holes, Sachar does write a fairly good book. The characters' motives are logical, perhaps a bit too much so. It also addresses several issues without getting too heavy-handed with them, such as Ginny's celebral palsy and racism. It's a good way to demonstate subtly in the delivery of social issues and prevelance of them in people's lives.
