I thought I liked The Celestine Prophecy as I was reading it. The "insights" that Redfield describes are generally good news to a hungry soul. I think that he is right (writing in the early '90s) about the collaborative mindset shift humans are experiencing. Trying to explain exactly what is going on is, to say the very least, quite a daunting task. I think that some people are aware of themselves and their surroundings now more than ever. If we are more in tune with energy fields, then good for us. We certainly deserve some kind of higher experience as we trudge through life. Don't we?

How this all ties into religion can be tricky. (In fact, anything tied with religion usually is.) Redfield does a decent job of showing the priests' strong disapproval in pre-Davinci Code days.

As for adventure, there's really not much of one to justify the book's subtitle "An Adventure". Yes, there are some exciting moments and yes, the chase is constantly on, but I didn't really care about that part as much as I wanted to see how the main character grew spiritually within himself. Insight to insight to insight was like rungs on a ladder for him to climb to his new understanding. The fact that they mostly came through cooincidences was an interesting way of looking at it; but that just took the power of his evolvement out of his hands.

He also meets soooo many people that are on the same path. He bounces back and forth between them and it's sometimes hard to keep track of who is who.

Like I said, I thought that I liked the book as I read it. And I guess that means that I did. But I've had a couple weeks to think about it since I finished and now I'm just not so sure. I'd say, check it out and make up your own mind. If nothing else, it's great for at least opening you up to new ways of thinking.
