I think this was more a love story about a daughter who adores her father, cancer just happened to be part of the plot. Liking to read about familiar locations, the fact that the family lives fairly close to me probably helped push it up a star. I know it's petty, but I like when I know exactly what street, church, hospital, etc they're describing. I might pass this one along to my mom, it's probably more her style.

Tarra I agree, I love reading books with familiar settings where I can say I've been there or know exactly what they are talking about. There is a whole literary tour business in New Orleans that takes you to all sorts of places described in books (many Ann Rice locations). And I've heard there's a tour in the Shreveport area that does Charlaine Harris' locales.
