Read from September 09 to 14, 2015

I was a pre-teen living across the Bay when the action takes place in late-70’s San Francisco, so I was somewhat aware of Armistead Maupin’s columns in the Chronicle but never read his work until now. Short chapters tell of the interlocking stories about a dozen individuals, starting with Mary Ann Singleton, a young woman from Cleveland who is intrigued, shocked, and seduced by the City. Other characters include her marijuana-growing landlady and the assorted people – gay, straight, and bisexual - who share her house, and her boss and his high-society family. People fall in and out of bed, and there are any number of unlikely coincidences.
