The story of a wallflower turned into a vibrant rose.

Elaine, the wallflower in question, has been belittled and ridiculed by "polite" society for the last 11 seasons. Her life has been miserable for no other reason then she has a loud boisterious laugh and her mother is extremely smart (read: unladylike to know all that "manly" stuff).

Reading about the things that were said to her and done to her actually made my heart hurt in sympathy. People can be cruel and downright vicious, but throw in genteel society and decency goes out the window too.

Enter Ethan, the man who started the harassing all those years ago. Turns out he wanted Elaine to notice him and not let on that he was totally smitten with her...so be was cruel. I don't know about you, but that whole "he's only mean to you because he likes you" thing is BS.

After realizing to what depths he has sunk, Ethan leaves for ten years to go mountaineering. He comes back a changed man, repentent and still in love.

But convincing Elaine of that is going to be a challenge.
