Not bad, but you can definitely tell this is a first novel. Kristopher has crafted a good story, but the stiff prose, clichéd dialogue, and stock characters. The villain is especially awful, as he is a complete stereotype who exists solely to cackle and rub his hands menacingly. Kristopher tries to subvert this convention by constantly commenting that the character is a "spy movie villain," but simply pointing out that your character is a total cliché doesn't excuse him from being a cliché. Kristopher also relies way too much on internal monologue, and the shifting POVs sometimes make the book feel confusing and schizophrenic. Overall, it's worth a read for die hard zombie fans, but it's not essential.
