I decided to try to kick my habit this summer. I seem to be addicted to teen books with a supernatural flair. So I’ve picked up more realistic fiction, you know, true to life, could actually happen, real stories. But I’ve fallen off the wagon, and I’m not ashamed! Paranormalcy by Kiersten White had been on my radar for a while, and I finally took it home with me to give it a try. I read it in a day. Not only is the cover kind of cool, but it has fun chapter titles, which I love. They are like little fortunes foretelling the future of the book. It’s fantastic. (Sorry about the alliteration.) Anway…

Paranormalcy is about this girl named Evie who has the cool ability to see through any type of supernatural glamour. The vampire might look all studly young man to a human’s eye, but Evie can see the rotten corpse he actually is underneath. She works for this organization called the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA) who rounds up supernatural beings and tags them to make them safe from humans. But then word spreads that something is kill all types of magical entities and it’s looking for Evie. Evie must try to unravel the mysteries of her past to save herself and the people she loves, including the totally hot boy she’s crushing on.

While there’s nothing super special about this particular story, they all start to sound a little similar the more you read, I really enjoyed reading about Evie. She’s strong, brave, and has a great sense of humor. Alas, it is the first in the series, however, and now I must annoyingly wait for round two. If you’re looking for your next dose of teen supernatural romance fiction, definitely give Paranormalcy by Kiersten White a try.
