Fabulous. I was expecting something pretty wonderful, having seen this title in the list of 100 best novels of the 20th century. So I was happy to immerse myself in the barrier island world of the precocious young narrator. The character of Taurus was so enigmatic that the reader can attach whatever they want to him, as Simons did. The settings were beautiful, the life of the locals, the dread country club influence. A good book about a brilliant transition.
