** spoiler alert **
This was surprisingly funny in parts, though I'm beginning to wonder if Russians have a different idea of what's funny than North Americans do. I can't think of a lot of comedic works that came off our continent that ended in suicide. I also really enjoyed all the meditations on art and the nature of writing and theatre and so on; you can definitely tell Mr Chekhov was passionate about his work, and also very frustrated with it at the same time.
