The author has a conversational style which makes it easy to read. The theology expressed in the book is sound and has a great focus on the Gospel and how to teach it to your kids in both correction and encouragement. But the examples of how to practically apply the Gospel are long winded. Even though the author tells the reader they shouldn't follow the examples rote, the length of them makes it hard to apply shorthand. This is would become tedious to children if followed from the book and therefore become ineffective. Plus no one talks like that! This is a downer as it is difficult to apply concepts without some guidance.

In addition, there are legitimate attacks on the bad approaches to Christianity and Parenting as taught in many churches and I think this would hit most Christians blindside and they would not be able to persevere with the book. Therefore I would still give people Gospel Powered Parenting.

But now I'm reading further and there are some really helpful sections later in the book so now I'm conflicted again...
