I thought I would wait to read this sequel to The Thief, but was too anxious to know what happened. What a wonderful book! I think the reason I didn't like The Thief as much is because so much of the characters' backgrounds are a mystery until the end, and so it hinders the character development. That's not an issue with this one. But for the conspicuous absence of magic (except for the presence of Greek-inspired Gods), The Queen of Attolia has everything to offer that a great fantasy novel should--adventure, war, political machinations and a little romance.
