Cute YA romance with an original plot,
dueling viewpoints, and a somewhat unexpected

Emma is the unknown young actress cast as the lead
in a modern-day Pride & Prejudice remake set in high school,
opposite Reid, the super famous hearthrob du jour. Their
chemistry on set (and off) is undeniable, but Emma's doubts
(and Reid's questionable intentions) cause her to think about
what she really wants.

All of the characters are keeping secrets, and the author is
really good at hiding them until the very end. The romance
develops suddenly, but Emma and Reid's honest viewpoints make
it believable.

I wish there was more interaction between the characters on set
(it was interesting to read about how their emotions would affect
their performances), rather than off. When they were going out
at night and partying in the hotel rooms, it seemed like every other
YA novel (but perhaps that's what made them relatable as teenagers?).

I also wanted to know more about Graham and Brooke, who I thought
were actually more endearing that Emma and Reid. I can't even remember
the rest of the characters because they were more caricatures than
anything else.

It was hard to find Reid likeable or redeeming in any way. The author
tries to make him a sympathetic character by bringing in family issues,
but it just didn't work. He was too selfish and stuck in his own little
world, and didn't develop throughout the novel.

I liked the story overall! It was a refreshing change from
all the other YA novels.
