Besides needing some serious trimming in the first 50 pages or so, this is another early King winner. I found it very hard to put down. This book highlights a character whose actions are fairly unpredictable from start to end. Even when we think we know what Dawes is going to do, we are hoping against it, or sometimes for it, and, on occasion, both at the same time. It's a very interesting character piece of a man brought to the edge of sanity by a Molotov cocktail of a life.

I wish some of the minor characters had been addressed more than they were. King presents some really interesting ones that only get a scene here or there. Underrated.
