it was amazing

An excellent pirate and adventure story, which never gets old. It seems hard to believe, but for centuries all the European nations would send out sea captains with a legal license to steal, a directive to attack merchant ships... so long as it was from someone else. They were backed by investors as any company or venture would be. (I laughed at the part where the hero is earnestly trying to get someone to fund his new ship to steal from the French. A great many parallels to any modern business and my current situation if you change the end purpose.) A lot of the really huge English fortunes were made this way if you go back far enough. WS is the master of the sweeping, epic tale, especially as it relates to Africa. This is part of the Courtney family story that he stretches over several centuries. I forget how many there are in the series, a bunch.
