This was a free kindle book that I downloaded because I liked the cover. Not the best way to chose books but wow did it work this time! I really really enjoyed this book. It was so unique and different to anything else that I’ve ever read before and now I’m on a mission to find out when the next one is out because I’m really gonna need to read that!
It combines time travel, mythology, vampires & shifters with current day Nevada, ancient Greece and 19th century Nevada. Now if that’s not a winning combination, I don’t know what is! And from that explanation you would think that this would be a head spinner wouldn’t you? Well think again because that’s one of the things I LOVED about this story. Everything is explained as we go along. I wasn’t left feeling confused at any time because our protagonist, Delia, is very normal and asks the questions that need answering whenever she is faced with something inexplicable. As soon as I found myself thinking ‘huh? What happened there then?’ – Delia would voice my question out loud and wouldn’t give in until she got an explanation and if she didn’t get an explanation she would tuck the question away in her mind and make sure that she got it answered at some point during the story. It was just so refreshing to feel so connected to a character and have that character act and react exactly how I would react if it had been me!
I loved the story line. Current day girl discovers she’s a demi god, removed of her memories and hidden in the future to protect her and ultimately save her empire of demi gods from corrupt and traitorous demi god and creatures of Hades. It just makes for such an exciting read! The characters were brilliant and very well written and despite the fact that there were quite a lot of them, I felt like they were all given their fair share of time for me to get to know them properly. The love aspect was completely unique, given that Delia already had the perfect boyfriend, but just couldn’t remember him! The mythology element was a great twist to the story. I’ve never read a mythology book before so I have no comparison but for me, it worked really well. And the build up and final few chapters left me reading until the early hours. – Edge of your seat stuff!!
I can’t really find fault with this book other than a couple of small things. Firstly, and this wasn’t really too much of a problem, but I think the story could have done with being slightly shorter. Again, just a minor thing but it was rather a long book. My only other complaint, (and this is something I find a lot with ‘indie’ books or free kindle books) was that there were a few proof read faults. To be fair this didn’t take away from the story or my utter enjoyment in reading it (as they were only minor things) so I’m not that bothered about this but I do think some of the mistakes could have been picked up on.
If there had been no mistakes and the story wasn’t quite so long then I would have certainly given this 5 stars. If you see this one but hesitate to pick it up, give it a go, I promise you won’t have read anything like it! And if it’s still free on Amazon, then you’ve got nothing to lose!
