“Fallen” by Karin Slaughter, published by Delacorte Press.

Category – Mystery/Thriller

The nice thing about “Fallen” is that Karin brings back many people from her previous books but the books do not necessarily have to be read in order. The best thing about “Fallen” is that it may well be the best Karin Slaughter book to date.

Faith Mitchell, a GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) agent, is attending a seminar that is running late. She attempts to call her mother who is watching her young child but cannot get a response. She pulls into her mother’s driveway and finds her young daughter locked in the garage in a car seat. She approaches the door and finds blood on the handle, finds a dead man in the laundry room, and her mother gone.

Sara Linton, a doctor, is called in to administer to Faith who is a diabetic and is close to insulin shock. Sara also coaches Faith in what to say to the police as she is confused as to some of her actions.

Will Trent, Faith’s partner, tries to help in any way possible but finds that he is being hindered by Amanda Wagner who is Will’s boss.

Amanda and Faith’s mother, Evelyn, are very close. They both came up the hard way in the Atlanta Police Department. Evelyn was allowed to retire when the task force she was in charge of was indicted for corruption, although Evelyn was not charged the members of the task force all served time.

All the clues lead to the possibility that Evelyn was indeed corrupt and has hidden her money away, or could it be something more sinister.

An excellent mystery that contains a lot of action, a lot of twists and turns, a lot of human emotion, and an unexpected ending.

If you read “Fallen” you will find yourself reading all 10 of her books. I would personally recommend for your next read “Faithless”.
