In an age where I hear something on the news at night, then the next morning the Internet tells me that it's a bunch of crap and to go here, here, and here for appropriate context, I'm used to the debunking of popular perception to the point where I expect it.

That being the case, the only reason to read this book is if you care about the Hell's Angels specifically, which I don't.

I can see why this was such a ground-breaking piece of pre-Internet journalism (along with the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test). It's clearly well researched and Thompson makes no attempt to sugar coat the Angels, just to show that they're not evil incarnate and that they're often victims of their own reputation--the same as any group pushed to (or opting for) the edge of society. What I can't see is why anyone should read this book today.

I only made it about 25% of the way through.

David To be honest, I think I got turned off to Hunter Thompson after reading a biography which showed him to be a mean user-of-people-around-him. And I agree with your assesment of this book--well researched but, like a lot of his work, dated and kind of pointless nowadays.
