WOW - that's all I can say! I picked this up thinking it was going to be another YA paranormal romance, on a recommendation from my sister-in-law. I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't a YA book at all! It was a wonderfully rich story with strong leading characters.

So, like mixing up a potion, this story combines many different elements: One part paranormal romance a la Twilight style, another part Anne Rice's witches (Lasher), yet another part historical fiction in the style of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, throw in some scholarly philosophical debate, mix it all with alchemical histories, add a dash of Latin and French poetry, some really creative characters and a complicated plot - not to mention a certain knightly vampire named Matthew Clairmont - and when all is slow heated over a flaming witchfire, its simply magic!

And what else can I say except I'm eagerly awaiting book #2, Shadow of Night, due out July 10,2012!!

Just as magical the second read through
