I am not sure if this is in the young-adult category, but it should be. This is a very easy-to-read story geared towards teenagers.
Alice Bliss is 15 when her Dad is sent to Iraq- the novel centers around Alice, and her mom and little sister. Besides having to cope with her Dad's absence, she is also dealing with the typical teenage angst of new emotions, experiences, and relationships.
This is a good book, especially for teens, or just an engrossing poolside read!

Bonus- I learned some good vocabulary words because Alice's smart little sister likes to read the dictionary. For example, 'ploitering', which means working to little purpose, as in pretending to look busy. Good word!
