(8/10) A fun memoir slash breezy primer about Russian literature and the insane experience of graduate school. Batuman does a good job of capturing both the absurdity and the value of academia, as well as some more personal insights that are both engaging and a bit touching. As someone who's starting grad school for literature in a month, I now consider myself warned. This is definitely meant as a light, accessible read, and if you're looking for something along those lines you could do a lot worse than The Possessed.
