This book had me flipping pages as fast as I could read them. That is, until the last few chapters. The setup was so amazing, I knew the momentum couldn't last. The last quarter of the book felt rushed and not in character with the first 3/4. However, the characters, atmosphere, culture, and story was incredibly engrossing. It reminded me of some of Evan Hunter's (Ed McBain) books -- of a dangerous and mysteriously erotic nature. The added bonus of the novella, "Father Panic's Opera Macabre" was also extremely strong but had the same problem at the end. Still, I would definitely recommend reading it.
