An okay beach read. I've read a few of the books in this series, all of them out of order, so some of what went on in "Haunted" confused me. Eve Levine is dead and now existing in ghost world but still has feelings for her daughter, Savannah, and wants to protect her. Eve is also still carrying on some kind of affair with her old lover, Krisof, now also a ghost.

Supposedly you can't touch anything in ghost world but Eve and Kristof keep winding up places where they dress up in costumes, drink beer and have sex. Armstrong tries to write this so it makes sense but it just comes off as weird.

Then the Fates hire Eve to track down some completely out-of-control serially killing half-demon ghost called the Nix. There's an angel who's supposed to help Eve but he's worse than useless which begs the question, 'how did angels get such a great reputation for being problem solvers anyway'. Eve has to go to hell to chat up the Nix's old partner for answers where she is set upon by several serial killers and stabbed repeated. (Note to author: I get that the Fates designed this prison to keep the inmates isolated but it's a pretty big design flaw to have a jail so secure that even the warden can't get in there).

This book wasn't a bad read but it's strictly holiday fare. Don't read it with your brain fully engaged or you'll get a headache from all the contradictions.
